St. Catharines budget committee to look at alternatives to LCHS
The city of St. Catharines budget committee has decided to look at alternatives to the Lincoln County Humane Society.
The committee, acting on a motion last night by Councillor Matt Harris, will seek expressions of interest from other agencies who may be interested in providing animal welfare services for the city.
Councillor Matt Siscoe says a precedent has already been set by West Lincoln which did not renew its contract with the LCHS and went with the Welland Humane Society instead.
Siscoe says at this point they are only considering their options noting its a 500 thousand dollar contract and residents deserve value for their money.
The move by the budget committee comes amid the ongoing controversy over the humane society's kill rate, and the board's refusal to open up its membership process.
