Just days before the regular season is expected to start, the Toronto Maple Leafs have made a stunning move by firing general manager Brian Burke. 

Several sources are confirming the departure of Burke, who held the GM position for just over four years.

Under Burke's tenure, the  Leafs have missed the playoffs in every season under his watch.

Toronto is coming off a disappointing 13th-place finish in the Eastern Conference.

Before joining the Maple Leafs, Burke previously served as GM of the Vancouver Canucks, Anaheim Ducks and Hartford Whalers.
