A nine-million-dollar settlement for people affected by a deadly C-difficile outbreak at a Burlington hospital has been approved by an Ontario court.
More than 200 people were diagnosed with C-difficile and 91 of them died after contracting the bacteria at Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital between May 2006 and December 2007.
Dozens of people who contracted C-difficile at the hospital or whose relatives died after becoming infected there sued the hospital alleging negligence.
Hospital C-E-O Eric Vandewall told the court through his lawyer that several changes have been made to prevent future outbreaks.
