The push is on to save obestrics and pediatrics at GNGH in the falls.
Mayor Jim Diodatti says he will be meeting with NHS supervisor Kevin Smith either today or tomorrow in the hopes of convincing him to keep the maternity ward at GNGH open.
Diodatti tells 610 CKTB's Tim Denis he doesn't understand why they would move those services to St. Catharines then move them back when a new South Niagara hospital is built.
The mayor noting "you don't move a grand piano, if you're building a house, to your in laws house while your waiting for your house to be built."
He says he would like to see the NHS and province come up with a strategy and set a timetable when construction will begin on the new hospital.
Obstetrics and pediatrics will move out of the Niagara Falls and Welland hospital sites when the new St. Catharines hopsital open in March.
