Ontario Labour Relations Board rules public elementary teachers planned protest illegal

The Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario says teachers will not stage a planned walkout today.
EFTO president Sam Hammond made the announcement moments after the Ontario Labour Relations Board ruled this morning that the planned walkout would be illegal.
Hammond says the union respects the decision and that teachers would be asked not to stage the one-day protest.
But the ruling, reached after a marathon 12-hour hearing that stretched into the wee hours of the morning, may have come too late to have much effect.
Some boards have indicated they will go ahead with a planned closure today of schools but others are holding off until 6 a.m. to make a decision, just like a snow day, and post the information on their websites and social media, as well as send notices to local media to inform parents and teachers.
Some have asked teachers to come in even if the schools are closed.
We will have more details as they become available.
