Police in St. Catharines trying to determine why a man was walking near the QEW when he was struck and killed by a car Saturday night.

The 59 year old was hit while walking near the entrance to the on ramp at Dunkird Road around 8.

NRP Constable Rich Gadreau says its an unusual place to walk given its proximity to the highway.

The driver a 35 year old st cathairnes man has not been charged.

Witnesses to the accident are asked to call police.
