The St Catharines police station is not leaving the downtown.
Police Services Board Chairman Henry D'Angela tells 610 CKTB, even if they decide not to rebuild the existing District One station at its current Church street location, it will stay in the downtown core.
He says regional councillors last night agreed to separate construction of a new Police headquarters from construction of a new St. Catharines detachment, which gives them an opportunity to look at alternate locations in the downtown.
D'Angela says regional council originally wanted both buildings built at the same time, but now they will be treated as two separate projects.
The 83 million dollar spending cap for both projects will remain the same.
Police headquarters is set to move from St. Catharines to Niagara Falls.
