Word there was another tour boat company willing to pay the State of New York $100 million more than Maid of the Mist.
According to The Buffalo News, Terry MacRae - the man behind Hornblower Cruises which is taking over the Canadian operation - wanted to get in on the American side as well.
He says the state refused to hear his offer.
MacRae says he was willing to double the figure the Glynn family is paying to operate on the American side, but the project wasn't open to public bidding.
Hornblower obtained the tour boat contract on the Canadian side following the province ending its no-bid lease with Maid of the Mist and opened the contract up to public bidding.
