NRP warning of water heater scam

2/4/2013

Another scam to tell you about.

Niagara Regional Police has received several complaints regarding tactics used by door to door water heater sales people.

The scam artist claims to have been contracted by Direct Energy and that the notice of the visit would have appeared on the homeowner's last invoice.

Direct Energy states that they do not go door to door in Ontario, and will not show up without contacting the homeowner to make an appointment.

NRP are reminding you that you are under no obligation to enter into such a contract on the spot.

They also want you to be vigilant and not release any personal information or copies of utility bills unless you know for certain how that information will be used.

Police want you to give them or CrimeStoppers a call if you get one of these fake salespeople at your door.

If you have any questions or concerns about your water heater you can also call Direct Energy at 1-800-266-3939.
