Council to appeal casino tax break

2/13/2013

Niagara Falls city councillors agreeing to appeal a tax break for the Niagara Fallsview Casino.

But that appeal could be years away.

This after the Casino won an appeal of its property tax assessment, in fact its assessment has been cut in half from $564 million to $278 million.

That means the casino will pay $3 million less in property taxes to the city and $3 million less in regional taxes.

The city's chief administrative officer warning council last night as it looked at the 2013 capital budget some belt tightening is in order as a result.
