Smithville man dies in snowmobile accident in Muskoka
A snowmobiler from Smithville is dead after falling through the ice off an inlet in Muskoka.
Ontario Provincial Police say the man was part of a group of four snowmobilers from Niagara who took a wrong turn as they were returning to their cottage from dinner in Lake of Bays Township Sunday night.
Three of the four managed to make it out of the frigid water and contacted police. Police divers pulled the body of the fourth man from the water around noon Monday.
The OPP has identified the victim as 48-year-old Edward Dehaan of Smithville.
Police say the four men were unfamiliar with the area they were in.
