Stoney Creek woman killed, Hamilton woman and baby seriously injured in New York accident

2/22/2013

U.S. authorities say an upstate New York man driving the wrong way on the Thruway crashed into a minivan, killing himself and an Ontario woman in the other vehicle.

State police say the crash happened around one o'clock this afternoon in the southbound lanes of Interstate 87 in the Greene County town of New
Baltimore, about 25 kilometres south of Albany.

Troopers say 43-year-old Julian With of Coxsackie (kuk-SAHK'-ee) was driving north in the southbound lanes when he collided head-on with a minivan driven by 39-year-old Karen Weller of Hamilton.

With and 50-year-old Carol Dion of Stoney Creek were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say Weller and her four-month-old baby, Tajaye, were taken to Albany Medical Center.

A hospital spokeswoman says the baby is in serious condition, but no information was available for Weller.
