Obama administration warning spending cuts could impact Canada/US border traffic

2/26/2013

The Obama administration warning a series of automatic spending cuts set to take effect Friday will bring longer waits at the border.

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano warning  the cuts could result in steep cutbacks in border security, which in turn would mean long lines at border crossings and airports.

So far Republican lawmakers have refused to come to the table to find ways to replace those automatic cuts with other savings and possibly tax increases.

President Obama telling governors gathered at the White House yesterday that  "Congress is poised to allow a series of arbitrary, automatic budget cuts to kick in that will slow our economy, eliminate good jobs and leave a lot of folks who are already pretty thinly stretched scrambling to figure out what to do."

Republicans however accuse the White House of deliberately making the cuts as painful as possible for political reasons.
