Warnings to Wynne from Hospital Unions

2/27/2013

The head of Ontario's Council of Hospital Unions is accusing the provincial government of creating graveyards full of dead patients over the last 10 years.

Michael Hurley is also warning the Wynne government hospital unions will fight any further cost cutting efforts.

He says since the mid 1990's, more than 18 thousand hospital beds have been closed.

Hurley points out  all three of Ontario's political parties support further funding cuts for acute care hospitals

He says those cuts are disproportionately affecting the elderly.

On top of that, Hurley says hospital overcrowding is linked to outbreaks of hospital acquired infections which claims the lives of about 5 thousand people a year.
