Fort Erie mayor calls latest provincial move beyond the pale

2/28/2013

The Mayor of Fort Erie fighting mad with the province over yet another blow to the town.

After the Ontario Municipal Board rejected an appeal by the Municipal Affairs Ministry trying to stop a Bridgeburg Station residential development, the province is now asking for leave to appeal the OMB decision.

The Ministry arguing a decision by Fort Erie and the region allowing for the development flies in the face of the province's urban boundary rules.

But Doug Martin says the OMB ruled in favour of the developer because the project was in the works before the urban boundary policy was brought in.

He questions why the province created the OMB in the first place.

He has now asked the Minister of Municipal Affairs to intervene and tell her staff to let it go.
