Loud booming noises in the 4th Avenue area in St. Catharines late Thursday evening turned out to be part of a celebration for the new hospital.

A Niagara Health System official confirms to CKTB the St. Catharines General Hospital Foundation held an event that included fireworks.

CKTB listeners emailed and left messages on Facebook about the explosions and light show.  Most assumed it was a fireworks show but couldn't understand why it would've taken place at 10:45 p.m. on a Thursday night.
