The NDP is championing the cause of former Vertis workers in Stevensville, as they fight to collect severance after the plant shut down.
Speaking in the House of Commons Tuesday, NDP MP Malcolm Allen accused the Conservatives of turning its back on the workers in Niagara and for being too cozy with American companies that "shut down facilities in Canada, declare bankruptcy in the United States and deny workers what’s owed"
About 100 employees lost their jobs when Vertis abruptly shut down in January. It declared bacnkruptcy in the U.S., denying the workers $2.7-million in benefit and severance packages owed.
