Two NRP officers charged

Two Niagara Regional Police officers are facing assault charges stemming from an incident last month.
The provinces Special Investigations Unit notified Chief McGuire of the charges today.
The SIU determined that on Wednesday, February 6 at about 10:00p.m. 23-year old Jonathan Hughes attended the Niagara Falls Detachment in relation to a ticketing matter.
During this time, there was an interaction between the officers and Hughes resulting in the suspects injuries.
As a result of the SIU investigation, NRPS Constable John Garner is facing one charge of Assault, and Sergeant Patrick McGilly is facing one charge of Assault Causing Bodily Harm.
Both officers will appear in court on May 8th.
