A St. Catharines councillor fighting to have the banner of a fallen Niagara soldier raised downtown.
Dennis Brown, who was killed in Afghanistan back in 2009, was set to be honoured on a banner in downtown St. Catharines.
Others included in the banner program include Harriet Tubman and Ron Sexsmith.
Brown's sons had nominated their father to be honoured on a banner, but his widow vetoed the idea saying Brown wouldn't want that.
The St. Catharines Downtown Association has said it doesn't want to get in the middle of a family dispute.
But Councillor Matt Harris says St. Catharines council needs to step up and do the right thing.
Harris says this is his family, friends and community pushing to recognize a hero.
He's looking to gain the support of council and the mayor to have the banner put up downtown.
