Toronto police cleared of excessive force in case involving St. Catharines man
Ontario's Special Investigations Unit has cleared Toronto police in an incident involving a 35 year old St. Catharines man.
Karl Andrus filed a complaint after he was asked to stop videotaping the arrest of two members of a family at Toronto's Sheraton Centre Hotel in August of last year.
The 35 year old Andrus was told by an officer that he had filmed enough and to move along.
He refused and was warned again.
At one point Andrus raised his arm.
The SIU concluded the arm motion was aggressive and justified the subsequent arrest of Andrus which left him with bruises, an abrasion on his head and a broken rib.
The police watchdog ruling the officers involved did not use excessive force.
