NRP warning about possible door to door scam involving home security systems
Niagara Regional Police are warning about another door to door scam in the region, this time involving home security systems.
Thanks in part to an alert homeowner, over the past week police have received two complaints regarding men posing as ADT sales representatives.
The unknown males have attended Niagara area homes pretending to sell security systems.
Police suspect these unidentified men are actually casing out homes to see if there is an existing alarm system installed and monitored, to obtain a layout of the interior and exterior of the homes, and to see if there is an animal in the home.
According to police, once they get the information these imposters usually have enough details to plan out what could be their next break and enter target.
Police are reminding you to never let a door to door salesperson into your home, based on their word that they work for an alarm company or any other service that may be offered door to door.
Investigators say that at this time nobody at ADT could confirm whether or not they have salespeople going door to door.
However, if approached, you are urged to contact ADT at 1-888-263-1748 in order to confirm the validity of what the person at the door is stating.
Anyone with information on this case is urged to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
