Thorold Tunnel to get back up power system
Drivers who use the Thorold tunnel won't have to worry about closures caused by power outages.
The Transport Ministry says it is installing a power back up system to prevent flooding when power outages cause the pumps to fail.
The tunnel which runs under the Welland Canal has been closed three times in the last month because of flooding.
But despite the closures, a ministry spokesperson says the tunnel is structurally sound and undergoes regular safety inspections.
