NRP arrest Montreal man in Niagara Falls for credit card fraud and identity theft
Niagara Regional Police have arrested and charged a Montreal man for identity theft and other fraud related offences.
Police captured the man on video surveillance while he was installing skimming devices on ATMs located in Niagara Falls, a few hours later the suspect was seen and followed by witnesses to a hotel in the honeymoon city.
Cops went to hotel and found 44 year old Dragos Patru and charged him with possession of instrument for forging credit cards.
Also arrested was 41 year old Sorin Bere also of Montreal who was wanted on an outstanding immigration warrant.
An investigation by the Niagara Regional Police Central Fraud Unit discovered a total of six skimming devices, computer equipment used to forge credit cards and stolen credit card data.
As a result of the investigation Patru was also charged with identity theft.
Patru is currently in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
