Province expected to allow all front line cops to carry stun guns
The Wynne Liberals are expected to announce changes today that will give cops more use of force options.
The move follows the fatal shooting of Toronto teen Sammy Yatim who died after being shot multiple
times by police during a confrontation on an empty streetcar.
The Special Investigations Unit has charged Toronto Police Const. James Forcillo with second-degree murder in Yatim's death.
The Globe and Mail, citing unidentified sources, is reporting the government will announce that all front-line officers in Ontario will be permitted to carry stun guns if their forces so choose.
Despite pressure from police to expand their use, Ontario has restricted the weapons to a select few supervising and specialized officers.
