$3.8 million NRP budget deficit
Niagara Police facing a $3.8 million deficit in the budget.
Police services Board Chair Henry D'Angela says a large chunk of that is unbudgeted retroactive salary increases awarded during arbitration.
D'Angela says that was a cost they weren't expecting that drove up the red ink.
He points to a dramatic reduction in overtime costs as a bright spot.
D'Angela says large investigations, such as Project Ink, tend to eat up overtime hours but the Chief is closely monitoring overtime to ensure it doesn't get out of control.
The findings came out at the Police Services Board meeting Thursday.
To deal with the deficit, D'Angela says they're still weighing their options but looking into dipping into various reserves to cover it.
