LCHS holding onto alligator hit by car in Thorold
An alligator hit by a car and killed early Saturday morning remains at the Lincoln County Humane Society.
Police say the three foot long reptile was hit at around 2:15 am on Merrittville Highway near Highway 20.
LCHS Spokesperson Todd Menard says they know who owns the alligator but cannot release his name at this time.
Menard says there are no by laws in the city of Thorold, so technically you can own an alligator therefore charges will not be laid.
He says the alligator did have the potential to harm someone.
Menard adds this is the first time in 17 years the LCHS has received a call of this nature.
On Tuesday, the LCHS will be contacting the Ministry of Natural Resources and Canadian Fisheries and Wildlife Services regarding any laws governing the importation of reptiles into Ontario.
