Peter Shurman out as Tory finance critic
Peter Shurman, who has been embroiled in controversy over his housing allowance claim, has been removed as the Progressive Conservative finance critic.
Opposition Leader Tim Hudak made the announcement in a statement Sunday evening, saying elected officials are held to a higher standard even if they follow the rules.
Liberals and New Democrats criticized Shurman, a Toronto-area member, when it was revealed that he billed the maximum $20,719 last year after moving to Niagara-on-the-Lake.
He said last week that he followed the rules but added that he would stop collecting the housing allowance while they are reviewed, and pay for his own accommodation in Toronto.
