13-year-old charged after dog shot with an arrow in Welland
A 13-year-old Welland teen has been charged after a dog was struck by an arrow.
The incident happened earlier this month. The owners were walking the Labrador mix named Tara on a pathway near a wooded area on Nelles Street when the dog ran ahead around a corner toward some bushes.
When it came back, there was an arrow in the mid section of the canine, leading investigators to believe the dog was shot at close range at a 45 degree angle
Investigators were able to determine the 13-year-old was responsible although it doesn't appear as if the boy meant to hit the dog. He's been charged with Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purposes.
Niagara Regional Police are reminding residents that the use of bows and crossbows can be extremely dangerous if proper safety measures aren't taken, particularly in urban areas.
The injured dog has since returned home and is expected to make a full recovery.
