UPDATE: Fuel spill in Fort Erie contaminates water
The Ministry of the Environment is on scene in Fort Erie after a tanker truck flipped Wednesday morning, spilling thousands of litres of diesel fuel.
Spokesperson Kate Jordan says the fuel got into nearby storm drains and then into nearby Frenchmans Creek.
Jordan says a beaver dam prevented the fuel from continuing on to contaminate the Niagara River, however the nearby Niagara Water Treatment Plant is monitoring the situation.
At this point intakes remain open.
Crews remain on scene, Niagara Police tell CKTB two of the 5 compartments were compromised in the crash.
No one was hurt in the crash, the investigation into the cause continues.
