Niagara Falls native makes 120 million dollar donation
A Niagara Falls native giving the largest single donation ever to the Rhodes Scholarship.
John MacBain has given the Rhodes Trust a 120 million dollar grant which will help fund 83 Rhodes Scholarships to the University of Oxford each year.
MacBain made his fortune after founding the Auto Trader magazines.
His foundation gave the Niagara Falls community centre on Montrose Road, which bears his name, a one million dollar grant.
Other contributions to the city include 750 thousand for the Family and Childrens Services centre on Canadian Drive and scholarships for students who graduate from A.N. Myer.
MacBain who is a Rhodes Scholar along with other beneficiaries such as former PM John Turner and former President Bill Clinton, says its important for wealthy people to give back.
