Pan Am games finances explained
Organizors with the Pan Am games taking a beating this week.
First it was over executive expense claims then word the games have two budgets, one for the athletes village that even the opposition parties say they had no idea about.
Media relations director for the games, Teddy Katz denies the 709 million dollar budget for the village was kept under wraps.
He says the story is completely erroneous.
Katz tells 610 CKTB's Tim Denis the athletes village has always been a project that will be totally funded by the Ontario government.
The province says they kept it separate from the games 1.4 billion dollar budget because they plan to recoup the money by selling off the units to groups who will use it as housing.
As for some questionable expense claims by members of the Pan Am Games executive, Katz says they follow the same guidelines for expenses that public sector employees use.
He adds, having said that, they have learned an important lesson and they will have to do more than that.
Katz noting they will tighten up the rules and are even considering posting all their expenses on line for the public to see.
