NRP launching distracted driving blitz
Niagara Police launching a 2 week distracted driving blitz.
Nearly 4500 tickets have been handed out in Niagara alone since the distracted driving law was enacted in Ontario in 2009.
Yet Police say drivers continue to use cell phones and other distraction devices.
Drivers are being reminded the only legal use of a cell phone while driving is to call 911.
Texting or emailing at a red light is also against the law and subject to the same $155 fine.
Drivers are encouraged to purchase a hands-free device, use their phone in speaker mode while it is securely mounted to the dash, or the safest practice, shut the phone off until you reach your destination.
