Thorold councillor wants fire merger proposal put back on table
A Thorold councillor wants three of six options regarding the future of the city's fire department put back on the table.
Jennifer Ferry is upset over a move by council Tuesday night to take the options off the table, including two that would have involved merging Thorold with St. Catharines fire services.
Ferry says all interested stakeholders including the public should have an opportunity to speak to all six plans before council makes a final decision.
While admitting the proposal to merge Thorold fire with St. Catharines is controversial Ferry says she hopes residents will call their councillors expressing their concerns about the decision to take the merger possibility off the table.
The three remaining options which include maintaining the status quo, purchasing new equipment, building new fire stations or closing others will be debated further by council in the New Year.
