St. Catharines man charged following alleged robbery
One man has been charged, another was sent to hospital following an alleged robbery in St. Catharines on Saturday.
Police responded to a report of an assault on Linwell Road at around ten o'clock in the morning after receiving a call regarding a man breaking into a coin operated machine.
Another man tried to intervene and that is when he was struck with a blunt object.
The alleged thief took off on a mountain bike heading toward Lake Street but with a flood of police in the area and the public's help, the accused was arrested without incident trying to leave a nearby apartment building he entered in order to hide.
Niagara EMS was on the scene and transported the male victim to the St. Catharines Hopital with minor injuries, he has since been released.
Police have charged Gino Camilleri of St. Catharines with one count of robbery and one count of breaching his probation.
Camilleri is being held pending a bail hearing scheduled for Sunday in St. Catharines.
