NRP says so called Grandparent Scam still happening
Another warning from the NRP regarding the so called "Grandparent Scam"
Police say the suspects target the public, and in particular seniors, saying they're a grandchild or a lawyer representing a grandchild and ask for money to be sent electronically to the out of the town lawyer and not to tell any other family members about the phone call.
Police add the suspects are very convincing when making these calls leaving the victim with a sense of urgency to send money. Even victims who were previously aware of the scam have fallen victim because the suspects are that convincing.
Anyone with information should call Niagara Regional Police at 905-688-4111 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
